When I learned that one of my favorite California winemakers, Sam Bilbro of Idlewild, and teamed up with legendary Russian River grower David Drummond to make Northeast Italian wines from David's Las Cimas Vineyards I almost fell off my chair with glee. And the wines did not disappoint! The Monte Regio white blend is made with Ribolla Gialla, Friulano and a touch of Kerner, and it is incredibly sexy. Citrusy and aromatic, with savory herb notes and a salty buoyancy that I just loved, and the Kerner lends a kiss of Riesling-like petrol at the finish. This is an incredibly complex white and well worth the indulgence.
